Tips, Tricks, and Warning Signs
Hope you all had a happy Halloween, and had fun with any alter egos that may jump out once in a while. Here’s a couple of animals that let out their wild side for the season. Scares me, I’d give up my candy! Thanks, Staci, for the pics.
And welcome to Lodestone Gallery & Framing’s first newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy putting it together. And feel free to pass it on.

POETRY ART IS HERE!
Yes, poetry art! Launa Stan’s works are now at Lodestone Gallery & Framing. This talented Arizona lady is not only a multi-media paint and canvas artist, she also composes poetry. When you look at her artwork, you will see the words of the poem in the artwork (the full poem is on the back). It’s incredible. Come and be touched by these pieces.
This inspirational art makes great gifts for special events. Poem and art subjects include birth, adoption, marriage, mother’s day, proud father, and more. Or treat yourself to a reminder of the joy in life.
ARTISTS COME TO LODESTONE
Join us Friday, November 28, for a gathering of Arizona artists. David Spiegelberg, Launa Stan, Garry Lozier, Don Wattier, and Wanda Mitchell Tucker will be joining us here at the gallery. Meet the artists, see their work, and find out what inspires these talented people.
FOUR PEAKS ANIMAL RESCUE AND RIO VERDE HORSEMEN'S ASSOCIATION FUNDRAISER
The Four Peaks Animal Rescue fundraiser on October 11, sponsored by Four Peaks Animal Rescue (www.fourpeaksanimalrescue.org) and the Rio Verde Horseman's Association (www.rvha-az.com) was a resounding success. Over 200 people showed for the event, raising almost $10,000. The event, held at the Reata Pass Steakhouse, included dinner, dancing, and a silent auction (with a cold wind thrown in). Lodestone is proud to be a part of this effort.
For information on how you can help, contact Four Peaks Animal Rescue at (480) 471-3520, or e-mail to the above site.
RECESSION-BUSTER HOLIDAY SPECIAL
Yes, it’s the holiday season. And with all that’s been going on with the economy, we can use a break. Around Thanksgiving, the Ancala Village holiday shopping mailer will include a coupon for 30% off custom framing at Lodestone. Beat the crowd. Say you saw the special in our newsletter (or clip out the coupon at left) and get 30% off now.
You may be thinking it just can’t get any better. But it can. Introduce someone new to Lodestone. If they make a purchase, you’ll get another 10% off any one of your custom framing jobs.
TIPS, TRICKS, AND WARNING SIGNS
SIGNS OF ACID STAINING
I was looking at my sample framing wall and noticing the lack of diplomas and certificates. Wanting a few examples to show off, I dug around in my garage for diplomas and certificates. There was my diploma – and there was also a very noticeable acid stain on the mat bevel!
If you look at the inner mat, you’ll see how dark the mat bevel is. That is an acid stain. Paper made from wood fibers is naturally acidic. It stains and disfigures your artwork. Mats made from cotton are naturally acid free. Mats can also be buffered to provide safety from acid stains.
For your artwork you wish to preserve, get conservation grade or better matting.
Also, check existing framed artwork for acid stains. If stained, you may want to get your work re-matted before the art is permanently damaged.
Thankfully my diploma was only mildly discolored. And yes, this was framed long before I entered the framing business!
